Between 1897 and 1901, the French company Schneider et Cie. carried out a series of mining surveys across the Iberian Peninsula. The 1898 expedition was documented in an album of 294 photographs, discovered more than a century later in an antique shop in Lyon. Taken by the company’s engineers during their journey, the images transcend their original purpose to offer an exceptional record of the landscape and everyday life at the end of the 19th century.

The editorial design draws on the publication’s documentary and photographic character. The layout seeks to preserve the archival nature of the images by reproducing them at the same size as the original photographs, while a restrained structure follows the course of the expedition, bringing photographs, annotations and texts together in a contemporary reading of the original material.
